The Heart of a Region La Roche-sur-Yon
La Roche-sur-Yon is a network city, a crossing point on a network of connecting roads, as revealed in their very names: Route de Nantes, Route des Sables, Route de Bordeaux, Route de Chôlet. The Pentagon not only concerns the inhabitants of La Roche itself, but also the numerous workers and their families who commute there. There are over 330 000 people living in the greater area of La Roche-sur-Yon, not including secondary residents and tourists. In the case of La Roche, the distinction between city and country is irrelevant. One measures the city in transit time instead of actual physical boundaries. «My town» is defined by the distance one is willing to travel to work, run errands, to relax and cultivate oneself, to meet friends or find a rare service. Our question was therefore how we could get the relatively large population of La Roche-sur-Yon involved in their city. How could the city be rendered more attractive to its inhabitants as well as commuters and vacationers? What will attract people to La Roche-sur-Yon, to its centre ?
